You are right, he does visit them in important times of their lives... but I don't think he visited Kate to tell her not to steal. B/c we KNOW she steals later on in the show... but the output of Jacob's visit to her is Kate being able to get away with stealing THAT lunchbox, b/c it is the same lunch box which will eventually become the time capsule made by Kate and her lover for life.

I thought he did die when he got shot. Well, he didn't die, but he said, "There is nothing you can do for me" and Jack left, and he was with Miles and Hurley who no doubt couldn't do anything to save Sayid...

If he was supposed to die, he would've died like only a day later or something but the finale where he got shot is supposed to be weeks or maybe months later.

Even longer than that. It's around 2 and a half years. Nadia dies October 20th 2005.

Sayid then works for Ben, then when there's no one left to kill, Sayid works for Habitat-for-Humanity, building houses. Then goes to help Hurley, then gets caught by Ilana. So I don't think Sayid was supposed to die, not even sure if he's dead now (although it seems he is). Nadia was the one who was supposed to die, to set the events in motion to make Sayid have nothing but revenge to live for, then to go to 1977 and try to kill Ben so be could be made special at the Temple, so he could grow up to be the leader and end up killing Locke...Wait, that's what Esau wanted, as well. So Jacob actually helped Esau??? This is an interesting thread. Something important is right beneath the surface of this idea.
